What’s on in Essex: Your guide to local Coronation celebrations
The Coronation of King Charles III is this weekend! If you’re looking for some last-minute plans to celebrate the historic reign of our new King, we’ve got the breakdown of what’s on in Essex and Burnham on Crouch over the bank holiday weekend. Let’s take a closer look at what’s going on within the local community!
Burnham on Crouch
Live Stream Picnic in the Park
Join the local community in celebration of the Coronation on King Charles at Riverside Park. There will be a big screen, showing the coronation live between 10am-4pm on Saturday 6th May. Bring your own picnic, have some fun in the park and even enter the Coronation Crown Competition for a chance to win some prizes!
Concert Showing
Back at Riverside Park, the big screens will be in use again to show the Coronation Concert, with visitors invited to bring their own drinks and snacks, along with any torches and colourful lighting to illuminate the park later in the evening! The celebration begins at 5pm on Sunday 7th May, and will end at 10pm.
The Big Burnham Celebration
St Mary the Virgin church in Burnham is holding ‘The Big Burnham Coronation Celebration’ on St Mary's Green on Bank Holiday Monday, 8th May. Entry is free and between 1pm-5pm, locals can enjoy a whole afternoon of activities, including live music, classic cars, different stalls, a flight simulator, children's crafts and barbeque food served fresh! You can also bring your own picnic if you’d prefer.
This event aims to showcase some of the wonderful volunteer organisations that operate in Burnham-on-Crouch! This is a celebration you won’t want to miss.
Royal Corinthian Viewing
If you’re looking for a place to watch the coronation with a scenic view and bit of history, the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club is showing the ceremony from 11am onwards, with coverage of all whole day of events.
Maldon
Promenade Park Mega Inflatable Day
If you’re asking what’s on in Essex, we suggest planning a trip to Maldon with family this weekend. Why not celebrate the King's Coronation at this huge inflatable arena at Promenade Park? This is the biggest inflatable assault course in Essex, featuring bouncy castles, slides, fun runs and more, plus separate toddler zone. Inflatable day will be held on bank holiday Monday – 8th May between 11am-4pm.
On the day, unlimited fun wristbands are £10, and if you’re brave enough, adult one time rides range between £1.50-£2.50.
Coronation Tasting Menu
Looking for a place to eat with a regal twist? Look no further than the Driftwood Coffee House! Between the 5th-7th May, the team are offering a Coronation weekend tasting menu and also a speciality brunch menu for a limited time! Enjoy the tasting menu from 5.30pm, with 4 courses for £38. Local delicacies include salmon jerky from Lambton & Jackson Smokehouse, Kelvedon asparagus, line caught cod and poached pears. English wine pairings are also available.
Driftwood is the perfect place to gather with family and friends. It has a wonderful relaxed and coastal vibe, inspired by Maldon's location on the Blackwater estuary. Food wise, there's something for everyone, with indoor and outdoor seating is available. Driftwood are also dog-friendly!
Street Party
Looking for a traditional Street Party to celebrate the King’s Coronation? Residents of Maldon and the surrounding areas are invited to enjoy a street party at Longship Way between 12-4pm. There will be games and face painting, a firepit pizza, a live DJ and form 5pm-10pm, enjoy games and music for adults in the evening. The only request is that all guests bring a refreshment with them to contribute towards lunchtime!
Southminster
Picnic in the Park
On Sunday 7th May between 2pm-6pm, Southminster Parish Council have also organised a celebration of the Coronation of the King at the King George V Memorial Field. The afternoon will be a ‘Picnic in the Park’, with entertainment provided by local bands, The Amstells and Raffles, playing the best music from the 1960s. Bouncy castles, refreshments and more await!
Latchingdon
Family Fest
If you’re looking for what’s on in Essex this coronation weekend, take a look at this local family fun day! Latchingdon King's Coronation Celebration is a free family afternoon out. Based at Latchingdon Village Hall and Playing Fields, Sunday 7th May between 12pm-6pm, join locals for a royal knees-up!
Confirmed attractions include a live five-piece band, live DJ, Quest 4 Entertainment - Dinosaur Encounters, pony and unicorn rides, bouncy castles, face painting, tombola, cake stalls, ice cream van, mobile bar and hot food. It promises to be a fun day for all the family!
Mayland
Family Coronation Celebration
If you’re looking for a family coronation celebration to enjoy on bank holiday Monday, Mayland Parish Council has organised a village celebration in the Lawling Park! There will be music, bouncy castles, children's crafts, games, tug of war and face painting and hot food available. Come along and join the party!
