The best tea rooms in Essex according to our luxury retirement community
At Burnham Waters luxury retirement community, we know there’s nothing quite like a good cup of tea! In our opinion, a good cuppa can solve a lot of life’s issues. National Tea Day is fast approaching on April 21st, so in homage to the hot English brew, this week’s blog is all about the best places to go if you’re after a cuppa like no other. Essex is blessed with a wealth of tea rooms local to the Burnham residential area. So, without further ado, here are just some of our favourites to keep an eye out for!
Tiptree Tea Room
This one is first on our list for good reason! Did you know that Tiptree Jam hails from Tiptree in Essex? If you’re looking for an authentic English tea room experience, you simply have to visit The Tiptree Tea Room. Open 7 days a week, the tea rooms and jam museum can be found in the heart of the village.
The tea rooms offer a wide selection of tea and other hot drinks, delicious food, including, home-baked cakes and Tiptree products, all finished off with traditional table service in comfortable surroundings. Once you’re fully refreshed, be sure to take a look next door, where you’ll find the official ‘John Wilkin Tiptree’ shop. There are a large selection of jams, condiments, homeware and branded accessories to buy and take home, so you can recreate Tiptree inspired tea at home!
As an aside, if you do venture into the museum just next to the tea rooms, it holds the original John Wilkin collection and is a great place to trace the history of the Wilkin & Sons, Tiptree preserves and of course, learn all about jam-making.
Mrs Salisbury’s
Mrs Salisbury’s of Essex is a firm favourite within our luxury retirement community. The local chain has three sites across Essex and is not far from Burnham on Crouch – with two shops in Maldon and one in Wickham Bishops. Mrs S’s tea rooms epitomises the Great British tearoom and have one of the widest loose and bagged tea selections on offer in Essex. Full of character and charm, you can enjoy sit down afternoon tea in their Maldon high street, or Wickham Bishops tea rooms. If you fancy a cuppa on the go, why not visit their café in the park at Maldon promenade, where you’ll find a selection of the most delicious bakes, sandwiches and hot drinks in Essex.
The BakeHouse
If you’re looking for a good cup of tea, paired with a toastie or a cake, The BakeHouse will take your fancy! Each venue has a lovely homely feel, exuding a rustic farmhouse aesthetic, it’s the perfect place to treat yourself for a bit of time out, or catch up with a friend!
BakeHouse is known for its amazing cakes and vast selection of tea across it’s venues in Chelmsford, Maldon and Witham, Essex. At the flagship setting in Chelmsford, you can enjoy an alfresco experience in the spring sunshine, overlooking the Essex countryside!
Afternoon tea is always made fresh to order, where you can choose from a ‘sweet’ selection complete with scones, Cornish clotted cream, a selection of freshly baked cakes, sweet bites and finger sandwiches. Or you can enjoy the ‘savoury’ option, which includes a homemade giant scotch egg, Cumberland sausage roll, garlic ciabatta, homemade tart of the day, mini chicken salad, crispy crackling twigs with seasonal chutney & finger sandwiches. Delicious!
The Parlour Tea Room at Mad Dogs & Englishmen
In Leigh on Sea, you can find The Parlour Tea Room at Mad Dogs and Englishmen. Within the community, they’re famous locally for their themed afternoon teas. The venue is known for its quirky character and décor, with the staff even wearing costumes on themed days!
A large selection of unlimited tea is available, alongside beautifully themed savouries, scones and cakes. Check out their website to see their upcoming afternoon tea themes, they’re not to be missed!
Ground Coffee House
Ground Coffee House in Burnham on Crouch is one of the most popular places for a grab and go bite and cuppa! Despite its name including ‘coffee’, you can get any hot drink here, including a wonderful English tea selection.
A short journey from our luxury retirement community, this local gem has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a hearty breakfast or brunch, or need a little caffeinated ‘pick me up’, Ground Coffee House has you covered!
What’s also great about GCH is that they make a conscious effort to use fresh and local produce from close-by suppliers. This is all then prepared carefully, in-house. Delicious, fresh and can also be delivered straight to your door!
